Day 26: Replenishment at Sea
Ezekiel 27:25: (KJV) “The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.”
One of the constants for a carrier under way is replenishment at sea (RAS). A supply ship pulls alongside, and we refill our deficient coffers. We must have our resources replenished every three or four days. To make sure that things are done properly, there is a RAS brief each time we perform this evolution. Without the RAS and the preceding brief, the ship could not carry out its mission and would become a shell of itself. The entire crew is appreciative after we are replenished. There is food and fuel aplenty.
The writer of this passage from Ezekiel seems to have had the same joy at the thought of being replenished at sea. One thing is certain; there is no better way for a ship at sea to receive replenishment than to pull alongside another ship. As Christians, we need constant replenishment—from God. Most of what we need can be reduced to food and fuel, that of the spiritual variety. If we do not get the spiritual vittles we crave, we will become shells of what we can become and ought to be for God. Like the evolution described above, we not only require replenishment, we must know how to plan for our needed sustenance. Pray:
God replenish us with manna, from you, each and every day,
Show us, O Lord, what to think, how to do, and always what to say;
Without your counsel we’d stumble and most assuredly fall,
We cannot live without you; God, you are our all and all.
Questions to Consider:
- Do you plan your spiritual replenishment?
- How long to you go between fillings?
Reflection for the Day:
- Consider how you feel when replenished by God. Compare that feeling with the dry (unreplenished) times in your life. Read Psalm 23.
